Content enrichment with meta information

Author: Dr. Frank Hoffmann, 2001/08/18

The meta information is precise information about („meta“) the document content. It characterizes the content with the help of a fixed number of description elements (e.g. title, author, date, editor, subjects etc.).

Meta information is essential for finding information. In a ZMS website the navigation and the presentation of documents are based on the meta information. The seven elements taken out of the Dublin Core meta data containing altogether 15 elements (see reference) can be divided in three categories and provide information about content, authorship and formal criterions. "Dublin Core" (DC) is an international system proposed by library scientists in 1995 and today asserted as standard system.
