Another important keynote is the simplicity of handling: ZMS restrains on the main interaction elements in the editorial interface.
For the permanent operation of a website it is important to be able to realise modifications easily and fast: you navigate to the requested document in the online provider and simply enter the character string "/manage" instead of the document name of the URL (e.g. "/index_ger.html"). After the login you enter the management screen of the actual site and can realise the requested processing steps.
The graphic shows three interaction zones: the menu bar (for object modifications) at the top, the action list (for object producing) at the left of every object and the button bar for superordinated object operations (delete/ copy/ insert).
With the help of the menu bar you get to the following modalities:
Process: Method for object operations and text input
Features: Editing of the object features (Attributes)
Sitemap: helps with the orientation and with the quick paging
Import/export: helps with the import and export of larger quantities of data: e.g. whole rubrics
Search: full-text search
Access: allows the introduction/modification by editors and managers
Preview: shows the layout view of the online document (as preview/stage or as online/live version)
With the action list objects are always inserted under the point where the action list is activated from. Further the action list allows to shift objects (up / down) within the document. ZMS is able to produce the following objects in default:
Text: a paragraph as for example an interim title or an enumeration
Table: a table construct with any number of columns and rows
Image: a picture together with a picture legend
File: any data file you like e.g. Word, PDF or Powerpoint; the data files are listed in a special reference list at the online layout
The buttons for the object operations appear at the beginning and at the end of the document and allow to delete, copy and insert objects (similar to the clipboard in Windows). So you can for example transfer a paragraph in an other document. You activate the requested paragraph via the choice boxes at the left of the action list; in this manner you are also able to mark and delete or insert several objects.
