Multi-client website for the administration of the university of Cologne

The Information and Communication Technology Commission (IuK) for Higher Education of the state North Rhine-Westphalia has awarded the ZMS based implementation methodology and technology. The department-specific web activities have been clustered and integrated in a multi-client hierarchy resp. maintained via a homogeneous CMS. The project has started with a departmental enabling (on-site coaching, training, joint project initialising) and has been realized primarily by internal staff resp. accompanying coaching measures. Relaunch has been Q1/2003.

Starting with the question how to establish department-spanning Web Content Management efficiently at all, a workplace coaching approach was chosen that emphasizes the modelling of processes, architectures and contents. The received performances at first serve the competency building of the internal staff (trainings); the publishing model with ZMS is elaborated in joint workshops and then independently refined resp. established.
An essential aspect is the consistent networking of the department-specific contents to an overall portal. In the short-term project run ca. 35 authors only in the university administration built up a cluster of 27 ZMS clients with much more than 1000 documents.
For the documents - with an IP based authentication logic partly laid underneath -significant performance improvements were achieved by the fragmented caching.
