The ONKODIN illustrated book is a reference project for the applications of the ZMS framework: on basis of ZMS object prototypes a hierarchical model for archiving medical image series has been developed. The publishing model is realised without additional specific software technical adaptions of the software resp. the application server; the basic ZMS functionality is aligned to the requirements only through a special configuration; thereby the basic elements "folder", "specal object" and "module" are logically combined.
Particularly for the use of ZMS as an image data arcive the system has some special software technical features:

1. Image series of any length can be provided as repetition element on basis of the standard image object in form of a special object. For the present configuration a special object of the type "document" is used that implements beside the formal and content-related describing attribution of the whole series a repetition image object making a detailled description for each single image via image object attribution possible.

2. Not only online-suitable images (GIF/JPEG) but also any image format and even movies or animations can be uploaded in the ZMS system. For not loading the underlying ZOPE-Datenbank with partly high resolution graphics it can be centrally set that all images are written in the file system and that the referencing is maintained via the data base only.

3. By use of the Python Imaging Library PIL high resolution medical images can be automatically converted to small preview images when uploading in the ZMS; for the website building primarily the preview images are consultet. Just after the explicit mouse click the high resolution image is presentend (if GIF/JPEG) or sent to the local computer as download.
