The online illustrated book for haematological cytology is developing as a part of the free available online compendium for haematology and onkology (http://www.onkodin.de). It will contain all essential subjects of the haematological cytology. It shall serve as a platform for presentations of basic but also expert knowledge. The project addresses medicines of all faculties, experts and students. The main focus is on training and continuing education.
The illustrated book is published online based on the Web Content Management System Zope/ZMS. By this authors can publish images and texts directly via the internet browser. Microscopic images of normal cells of blood, bone marrow, lymph node and pictures of haematologic deseases are standing in the centre of the representation. The image series can be integrated in a didactic point of view into thematic systematics and/or into case studies. The microscopic results are standardizes by structured guidelines for the result description.
The structure complies with the classic systematics of the haematological cytology. Furtherore, typical symptoms and case studies are published. For special cases a discussion forum is implemented to discuss problematic findings.
Currently 27 authors of different sub-specialisations are enganged in the development. Partly the material is already published (http://www.onkodin.de/bildatlas). The database will be systematically and continously enhanced with interesting results and cases that are made available by the authors and other interested persons.
